Lessons and reflections from Module 2 of Eckhart Tolle’s Conscious Manifestation Course
What happens when we shift from striving to meet the ego’s needs of, “What do I want?” to “What does the universe want to create through me?”
Eckhart teaches that “doing” is the creative outward flow of the universe, which is constantly creating. And since we are part of the universe, creating — or doing — is also part of our life’s purpose.
“Being”, says Eckhart, is the opposite movement of “Doing”. It’s the pullback to the Source or Universal Intelligence. We experience this irresistible and unconscious return to Source, he says, every night in dreamless sleep.
Eckhart teaches that being is when we’re connected with our innermost Self or the essence of who we really are. What does that mean? It means that beyond our personality, our life situation, and our human form, each of us is an emanation of the Source, Universal Intelligence, or God. And our purpose is to awaken to that emanation that is not separate from us but within us.
If you’re still reading this, then you’ve awakened or are awakening to the essence of who you really are. And it’s likely you want to bring that essence to the doing of your work and life — throughout your day — not just when sleeping, praying, or meditating.
What does the Universe want to create through you?
Eckhart teaches that once you become aware of and are in touch with your Inner Being, how you live your life and the work you do, will likely change. That doesn’t mean you need to quit your job, abandon your family, and become homeless to fulfill your inner purpose. Eckhart stresses that it’s important to continue in whatever you’re currently doing until you find what resonates with you.
For some, you’ll continue in your job but you’ll bring a higher dimension of consciousness to your work. When you’re connected to Being, universal intelligence flows through you and into others, affecting situations and the way people respond to you. As a result, your work will become much more meaningful and impactful.
If you’re a teacher, healthcare worker, or business leader, for example, the way in which you relate to others will have a positive flow of energy behind it. The people you work with will respond to you on a deeper level because they will sense (whether they’re aware of it or not) a higher level of consciousness emanating from you.
For others, you may realize that there’s something else that you should be doing but aren’t sure what that is. When you manifest consciously, you don’t ask, “What should I be doing?”. You ask, “What does the universe want to create through me?” The answer may come as a thought, a mental image, an event, or an encounter with someone. If the answer doesn’t come right away, Eckhart says it’s important to practice acceptance and gratitude for what you have right now until something else comes along.
Practicing gratitude for life’s challenges can be extremely difficult but also incredibly transformative and powerful. Eckhart teaches that our challenges are often our greatest teachers and are directly pointing to what we need to work on within ourselves. That doesn’t mean we should allow ourselves to become doormats for other people’s egos. Acceptance doesn’t mean doing nothing. You can still say “no” or walk away from a situation, but you’ll do so from a clear realization of insight rather than reaction.
Also, Eckhart emphasizes that the “doing” doesn’t have to be a career. It could be volunteering, mentoring, parenting, etc. Anything you do that brings you closer to your Inner Being not only serves you, it also serves those around you.
Invite Universal Intelligence into your day
Start where you are, says Eckhart, and intentionally bring transcendent moments into your day:
- Ask in meditation and prayer, “What does the universe want to create through me?“
- If you don’t have a mediation practice — consider getting one. Five to ten minutes twice a day. Don’t listen to your mind when it tells you that you don’t have time. Do it anyway. Do you really not have time to listen to God? That’s what meditation is. Prayer is asking, meditation is receiving.
- Simply be in the present moment. Eckhart teaches that when we align with the present moment we’re connecting with the peaceful and spacious presence within us.
- Take a conscious breath throughout the day. Click the FB link for instructions:

- Practice feeling your inner body for a few moments throughout your day. Watch this video by Eckhart’s partner, Kim Eng, for guidance.
The Power of Releasing the Outcome
When we’re connected with our Inner Being and co-creating our life from consciousness, we live with an overall sense of peace and fulfillment. We’re no longer attached to the outcome we’re trying to achieve. Think about that for a moment. When we’re completely attached to the outcome, we’re relying on factors out of our control to fulfill us or make us happy. Essentially, we’re setting ourselves up for failure and disappointment.
Eckhart teaches that when we’re manifesting from Being we’re not looking to make ourselves feel better by the desired outcome. When we’ve shown up and done our part to align ourselves with what we’re trying to manifest, we can release the outcome knowing that if it doesn’t materialize, something else will come instead.
Reflections
Week 2 reminded me that when we begin to awaken and connect to our Inner Being priorities tend to shift. I find myself seeking the nurturing solitude of nature more and more. And I have a notion to just be rather than feeling driven to do. But I also still feel the egoic heaviness of needing to achieve something, feel important, contribute more, earn more money, and so on.
There’s nothing wrong with earning more money or achieving things but when I looked at my intention behind those desires, I realized I was doing so to improve my sense of self-worth. And that is egoic desire. The whole point of this course is to understand, really understand, that we are already complete. That we don’t need to add anything to ourselves or this moment. And that happiness is found right now, not in the future.
Conscious manifesting is asking what the universe wants to create through us. It’s about awakening to our true life’s purpose.
